Oreon 11 at a glance

  • KDE Plasma desktop aimed at newbies. Familiar, friendly, and easy to use right away.
  • Stable-rolling and LTS branches, offered as separate ISOs so you pick the pace that fits you.
  • Still dnf and rpm-based, but Oreon is going independent on its own path forward.

Built for almost everyone

Oreon 11 is aiming for an almost-everyone distro. New users get a welcoming desktop without feeling lost. Experienced users still get the control and depth they normally expect.

Oreon System Manager

One GUI for packages, repos, Distrobox and Docker containers, and drivers. Less terminal commands, more getting things done.

Oreon Defense

A security app for Oreon. Straightforward protection and visibility with real-time alerts.

KDE Plasma

Oreon 11 moves to KDE Plasma for a flexible, polished desktop that scales from casual use to heavy customization.

BORE scheduler and universal optimizations

BORE comes in the kernel out of the box with package-to-package optimizations for aarch64 and x86_64 universally. No CPU version fragmentation.

Independent but still RPM-based

Oreon keeps DNF/RPM as its base, but we are using our own independent build system, repositories, infrastructure, and testing systems instead of basing directly on AlmaLinux and using their repositories.

Stable-rolling and LTS

Oreon 11 offers two branches as separate ISOs. Take stable-rolling if you want faster updates and newer software, or LTS if you want a slower and more stable experience.

Centrio installer and driver detection

Extreme pre-install customization through Centrio, plus driver detection built into the installer and the live system for hardware changes down the road.

Launch-ready infrastructure

Oreon 11 is already backed by major infrastructure, powerful enough to handle massive download demand after release.

Beta testing

Try Oreon 11 before release. Oreon 11 is available now for testers.

Beta builds are unfinished. Not all announced features are included yet, some are still work in progress. Do not install on production hardware.
